The motorway and expressway provider ASFiNAG is responsible for the expansion, maintenance and management of the Austrian motorway network. Their tasks also include the construction of noise protection measures. Due to the unfavorable valley shape, especially high noise barriers had to be planned in the Zederhaus area.
On behalf of ASFiNAG, a realistic 3D visualisation of the motorway section was created with CityGRID^®. The planned noise barriers are shown as a switchable variant, the traffic is simulated by driving car models.
On the basis of this visualisation, the impacts of the noise protection measures could be discussed in an illustrative manner with the residents. Both the advantages of noise reduction and the disadvantages of additional shading were discussed in detail. Due to the visual visualisation, neighbours were able to make targeted suggestions for improvement, e.g. minor shortening or extension of the noise barriers. These proposals were taken over in a revised planning, again visualised and again discussed with the local residents. In this way, a constructive dialogue could be established with the population and a consensus on the planned construction measures could be achieved without major time losses.
