The city of Vienna needs the city model as a 3D extension of the city's basic map. The first version of the city model was already built in 2004 with the help of its own photogrammetric roof evaluations.
For more than 10 years now, the city of Vienna has been using the CityGRID® software to efficiently manage the digital city model. Particularly important is the permanent updating of the 3D data on the basis of the digital city map with the least possible additional effort. In addition, the CityGRID® system facilitates the refinement of the city model in project areas.
The digital city model is now widely used by many users in the city of Vienna. Currently, the use of the city model is further enhanced by automatic texturing, 3D visualization and 3D printing.
